The Journey

A question carried forward
since 2002.

Travel experience, publishing and technology ventures preceded the current research framework. Each stage has a different kind of record.

2002–2024

From experience to research.

  1. The question begins.

After completing his MBA in the United Kingdom, Zhaorui Zhu begins his $3,000 round-the-world journey. The experience frames a lasting question about information, access and travel value.

  2. A personal journey becomes a public record.

The journey is documented in a book, followed by reporting and public talks. The publications belong to the founder’s travel history, before today’s technical framework.

  3. The travel idea enters an editorial and a recognition.

Shanghai–Hong Kong Economy opens an editorial with Zhu’s $3,000 journey, using his experience to frame a broader discussion about the emerging low-cost aviation market in China. New Weekly also recognizes the travel work in 2004.

  4. International and national reporting, then speaking.

CBS travels to Beijing to interview Zhu on March 11, 2005. China Daily features him on its front page and in a full-page profile on January 31, 2005. An invited IBM pSeries Partner Summit keynote follows in 2005; F5 Networks (NASDAQ: FFIV) later invites Zhu to speak at its annual media exchange in Beijing in 2014.

  5. The first technology venture.

Zhu launches 3000you.com, a low-cost airfare search venture. The founder’s account records RMB 1 million in angel investment. The venture later encounters setbacks and its second round of financing does not proceed. This is an earlier business, distinct from ASKZHU.AI’s current research.

  6. The ASKZHU name takes shape.

The preserved inscription records Geoffrey Lipman’s handwritten ASKZHU name. Zhu’s account connects the book-launch discussions with a shift toward the airline’s economic question. This marks a project direction, not the completion of today’s algorithms.

  7. The travel idea enters an examination.

《出发,才能到达》 was used as material in the Shaoxing City high school entrance examination in Zhejiang Province.

  8. A new phase of technical development.

The project’s supplied record dates the current technical development phase from 2024. Work through 2026 includes a research architecture, aviation research and historical simulation. These milestones do not establish live commercial deployment.

2026 / A separate milestone

International industry recognition.

ASKZHU.AI receives a US Magellan Gold Award and a place on the UK Travolution Champions of Data shortlist. The two outcomes are distinct. Details and official records are collected on the Recognition page.

The final 72-hour airline decision question emerges as the current validation focus: what should an airline do with remaining capacity as departure approaches?
